Study Smart, Not Hard!
-
Learn Danish like a local: not just words, but humor, social cues, and cultural codes, that textbooks never teach.
-
See Danes beyond your bubble: we (luckily) no longer “study people in zoos”. But to better understand the Danish lifestyle and more average or fringe, it is much better to learn Danish through culture, not as a sidedish, but intertwined.
-
Dial-a-Dane: your cultural passport to Denmark!
Because
you’re training a new muscle, we strongly
recommend speaking at least once a week.
It’s all about
muscle memory.

Dannebrog
Fun Fact #1
The Danish flag, Dannebrog, is the world’s oldest still in use. Legend says it fell from the sky during a battle in 1219. Today ANY form of celebration calls for Danish flags. Even funerals, where we flag half-mast.
Late marriage
Fun Fact #2
For most of Danish history, people married and had children late: in their 30s or 40s. At times by law, as financial stability was required to have kids. It wasn’t until the 20th century that early parenthood briefly became the norm.
Fastelavn
Fun Fact #3
Fastelavn once meant beating a barrel with a live black cat inside, as cats were thought to bring bad luck. Today, the barrel holds candy, but still has a figure of black cat on it.
Flueknepperi (flyfucking)
Fun Fact #4
A lot of things, that elsewhere would be considered swearing, is acceptable to say in Danish cultur. Even in work places you will casually here the word “flueknepperi”: flymating, even at offices.
Politeness is to not waste my time
Fun Fact #5
It is mostly considered more polite to use less words with strangers and more formal conversations. But on the other hand deeper more informal relationships we use more useless words, like, “lige”.
Gender-equality paradox
Fun Fact #6
Did you know: In Saudi Arabia, approximately 25% of nurses are male. In contrast, Denmark has only about 4% male nurses

What Other Students say!
“Its really easy to communicate with Sif. She notices when I don’t understand something and explains it perfectly.”
LukasElectrician
“The lessons are also steeped in Sif's outstanding knowledge of Danish culture and history. It is so nice to read a H.C. Andersen story and understand not just the words but also its meaning and its context, for example. Sif is also has a great sense of humor and has a very relaxed style. As a teacher myself, I think this perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Sif's lessons--blending a stress-free, relaxed environment with an organized and dogged approach that language learning requires.”
